From the chapter «Chapter 1: The Challenge»

In a beautiful forest full of tall trees and brightly colored flowers, a sunny day illuminated everything with its golden light. The birds sang joyfully in the branches and the gentle wind moved the leaves as if they were dancing. It was a perfect day to run, play, and discover new things.

In the middle of the clearing, the Hare jumped from side to side, swift as the wind. Her long legs seemed to barely touch the ground.

—No one can catch me! —the Hare shouted with a proud voice—. I’m the fastest in the whole forest! I can run from here to the river in less time than it takes a rooster to sing!

The Tortoise, who was walking slowly near an old trunk, lifted her head and smiled calmly. Her shell shone under the sun and her eyes showed patience.

—Maybe you’re fast —the Tortoise replied in a calm voice—, but I also get where I set out to go. I just do it at my own pace.

The Hare stopped abruptly and let out a laugh that echoed among the trees.

—You? Race against me? Ha! That would be like a tortoise flying. I challenge you to a race. Tomorrow, from here to the great oak on the other side of the forest! Do you accept?

The animals passing nearby began to stop. First came the Fox and the Squirrel, then the Woodpecker and the Deer. Everyone wanted to see what was happening.

—A race! —exclaimed the Squirrel, wiggling her tail with excitement—. This is going to be fun!

The Fox, always curious, sat on a rock.

—This looks promising. The Hare is very fast, but the Tortoise… well, we’ll see.

The Tortoise looked at everyone serenely. She didn’t seem scared or angry. She just thought for a moment and then nodded.

—All right —she said—. I accept the challenge. We’ll run tomorrow at dawn. May the one who shows the most perseverance win.

The Hare jumped for joy.

—Perfect! Get ready to lose, slowpoke friend!

The animals applauded and began to organize everything. […]
